Mulberry Restaurant & Bar, Jalan Ampang, KL

Cozy Ambiance
Previously known as Speakeasy, Mulberry is one of the coziest places around the area for food and drinks. Whenever i have lunch with Chris, we always end up with deep conversations so a cozy ambiance is a must. The place is usually packed during lunch hour so it would be advisable to reserve a table or come early. There is a private room at the back as well which has seen many an office birthday party. :)
Side Bar

Yong Chow Fried Rice (RM18)
Mulberry serves pizzas, pastas, western and asian food. Chris had Yong Chow Fried Rice and I ordered Chicken Thigh in Rosemary Sauce. The chicken is usually served with soy sauce and fries but I had asked the waiter if he can substitute the sauce and the fries with mash potato to which he cheekily answered, "Yes Chef". The prices are a bit on the high side (cmon RM18 for fried rice?) but I guess that's the price to pay for good food. :) The fried rice was "fried" to perfection and the chicken was tender and well marinated.

Mulberry serves alcohol but no pork and is located at 9, Jalan Ampang, 50450 KL.

G3 Kitchen & Bar, Bangsar

An understated eatery situated opposite F Block in Bangsar, I didn't even notice it at first glance. Luckily I accompanied Koonie to collect her glasses from Reliance (the specs shop in Bangsar which is forever crowded). Soots and her bf joined us at the shop and then for dinner.

Shelves of ingredients adorn the walls at G3

G3 serves a variety of food, amongst others (ie the ones we ordered) - Seafood Paella (RM29) [not pictured], Linguini Pomodoro, Clam & Prawn Spaghetti and Chicken Tikka Masala.

Linguini Pomodoro (RM20)

Clam & Prawn Spaghetti (RM26)
Chicken Tikka Masala (RM29)

All around the table, everyone was satisfied with the food. Portions were more than generous, ingredients were fresh (the prawns and clams in particular) and service was attentive. Definitely worth revisiting. :)

G3 Kitchen & Bar is located at No.19, Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar Baru, 59100  KL. Opens late on weekends.

KAFFA ESPRESSO BAR, UPTOWN

Kaffa is one of those little establishments which exudes soul and character. Newly opened about 2 weeks ago, I've already been there twice and its fast becoming one of my favourite joints. :)

Kaffa Menu Board
Kaffa serves food on top of its drinks. I've tried the Turkey Ham, Brie & Apple Triple Decker Sandwich and the Spicy Aglio Olio with Turkey Ham & Seaweed.

Turkey Ham, Brie  & Apple Triple Decker Sandwich (RM16.90)
The combination for the sandwich works well together and its served with a side of creamy mashed potato and a salad with some vinagrette.

Spicy Aglio Olio with Turkey Ham & Seaweed (RM20.90)

The Aglio Olio was infused with ground black pepper and I've honestly never thought of having pasta with seaweed before. I felt it could have had more ingredients on top of the seaweed and turkey ham. Perhaps some mushrooms and olives? (no offense to Kaffa's chef )

Winding down with drinks and chatter after food, a Cafe Mocha for a caffeine fix and a Chamomile Tea with honey for some soothing. :)

Cafe Mocha (RM12) & Chamomile Tea (RM8)
The people behind Kaffa must be graffiti enthusiast as graffiti adorns its walls. I really like the decor and the feel it gives to the place.

Kaffa Espresso Bar is located at 97, Jalan SS21/37, Damansara Utama, 47400 Petaling Jaya ( same row as Perodua Showroom). Kaffa opens till ten on weekdays and midnight on weekends.

KAFFE CAFE, TTDI

After a stressful week at work, Lizi and I decided to chill out on a Friday night after work. Unfortunately it rained and we all know what happens to the roads when it rains + Friday evening. Lizi took 2 hours just to get out of her office basement so you can imagine how exhausted she was when she arrived at my place. We headed to chill out at Kaffe Cafe in TTDI. A newly opened cafe a few doors away from Mukha, they only serve drinks and desserts for now.

Kaffe Cafe
Lizi had a Flat White and I had Osmanthus Tea from Kaffe Cafe's Sichuan Tea line.

Osmanthus Tea - Sichuan Tea Range (RM8) and Red Velvet Cake (RM10)

We also had  a slice of Red Velvet Cake. However, the cake was not fresh. The sponge was too dry and crumbly and the cheese frosting was turning sour. Its my guess that they don't bake their own cakes and I do hope they improve on their cakes/food section as it really is a lovely neighbourhood cafe. People are friendly and service was prompt.

Tabletalk, TTDI

I met up with Popo over the Christmas break. We went out on a week night as her firm was closed for the week and I was on leave and we headed to a new eatery in TTDI called Tabletalk. I had seen beautiful pictures of the food on eatdrinkkl.blogspot.com and was excited to try it out. As it was understandably a week night, we were the only table when we entered and only two more tables filled up that night.

For starters we ordered the Spicy Tomato Soup. Now this is more of a spices-spicy rather than a hot-spicy. It tasted kind of like dhal to me. Pardon my dismal knowledge of herbs and spices.

Spicy Tomato Soup (RM12)

We ordered the Oriental Chicken and Traditional Pesto. Portions were generous although flavour was slightly lacking.

Traditional Pesto (RM20)

The biggest disappointment of the night however, was the Melon and Wild Berry Salad. Listed in the "Appetizer" section in the menu, it can be ordered as a dessert as it comes with two meringue cookies. The picture in the menu was so enticing but what arrived at our table was a big let down. I couldn't control my disappointment and actually asked the waiter why did it look so different from the menu and his excuse was that the chef likes to "experiment with presentation". Apart from the presentation issues, the meringue cookies were not soft and puffy inside as how I imagine it to be and there were no other berries except a few bits of strawberries.

Tabletalk is located at No.4, Jalan Datuk Sulaiman, Taman Tun Dr Ismail. Open till late.

Mukha TTDI

Koonie and headed over to Mukha cafe in TTDI on a Thursday for lunch. (same row as Penang Village). Loved the ambience and decor with its chill-laidback vibe.

Pumpkin Soup (RM9)

We shared the Pumpkin Soup and Kofta Meatball Spaghetti (RM16). I’ve never really been exposed to pumpkin before but Koonie is quite the pumpkin fan and we both decided the Pumpkin Soup at Mukha was abit bland.

Kofta Meatball Spaghetti (RM16)

The Meatballs were abit on the dry side but otherwise acceptable. I liked the flavour of the spaghetti with just the right infusion of herbs. We also tried SHAHI - Arab Tea with mint leaves. Interesting.

Consistent with the laidback vibe - the dude taking our order and serving us was wayy laidback and looked abit stoned. but i’m not complaining. :)

Mukha TTDI is located at 15, Lorong Rahim Kajai 13, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, 60000 Kuala Lumpur. Closed on Monday. Open till midnight on Friday and Saturday.

begin again!

I created this blog in 2009 but have never had the discipline to pen down much. One more attempt to resurrect it this 2013. :) fighting*
